What’s the difference between Serial and Episodic, and how do I change it?

Omny offers the choice to designate your podcast as either serial or episodic. The subsequent guide delineates the nuances of each option and offers recommendations on their suitable usage. Typically, these settings dictate the sequence in which episodes appear and play across prominent podcast platforms like Apple, iHeartRadio, and Spotify.

Episodic

Episodic is the default setting for podcast episode ordering. It is best for shows that have standalone episodes and can be enjoyed without listening to previous episodes. These might be shows that include interviews or news briefings, or that don’t require binge-listening to catch up. When set to episodic, episodes will display from newest to oldest on most platforms. Playback of episodes will also be newest to oldest.  Episodes published most recently will appear at the top.

Serial

Serial is best for podcasts that follow a storyline or that should be llistened to in sequential order. This might be investigative series, dramas, or narratives. When set to serial, episodes will be ordered and played from oldest to newest.
